Arctic Coastal Change

Warming faster than any other region on the planet, the coastal Arctic, one of the most critical areas on Earth for energy resources, transportation, security, subsistence, and biological and cultural diversity, is rapidly transforming. Arctic life - from the land to the sea and from microscopic marine plants to humans - is increasingly forced to adapt to a "new normal".
Combining observations from airplanes, helicopters, boats, and drones, and founded on strong collaborations with local Indigenous communities, NASA's Earth Venture Suborbital mission FORTE will measure the dynamic and rapidly transforming ecosystem of the coastal Alaskan Arctic and how environmental change is impacting this region and beyond - not only a science priority but also a socioeconomic imperative.
