As an education and public outreach (E/PO) specialist working for SSAI within the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Sciences Lab at GSFC, I want to be sure that the primary messages -- the biggest ideas -- from our E/PO discussions here do come across. These are they:

A lot of highly useful strategic thinking about E/PO has taken place recently across the agency. David Herring’s Excellence in Outreach workshop took place just this last June. See Report on our Education and Outreach breakout site, and other strategic planning documents.

A lot of worthwhile, very good programs are going on.
This community can link to them for high leveraging and support by professional education and outreach personnel. Find them by talking with E/PO personnel at NASA centers, and let us know about the ones you’re aware of!

We can do a lot with a little, through partnerships.

Education and Outreach personnel at GSFC want to work across missions, thematically as scientists do.
Funding comes in pipes which has the effect of segregating us.
SO:

Enable more thematic, interdisciplinary approaches to education -- themes based on science -- primarily by rewarding cross-mission collaboration in education efforts funded by HQ
and by supporting communication within this group.

Thanks so much for this excellent opportunity.
