Abstract:
Incident photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) is one of the key variables driving terrestrial carbon models. Supported by NASA Terrestrial Ecology Program, we have developed a robust algorithm for estimating incident PAR from MODIS and other sensors. In this study, we propose to apply this developed algorithm to generate the PAR product from MODIS and GOES over the North American in support of the North American Carbon Program. The product will be distributed to other investigators in calculating carbon cycle. The PAR algorithm will be also piped up with MODIS GPP/NPP (MOD17) product processing flow for improving GPP calculations over the North American and eventually for the global applications. The products will be validated using ground observations from FLUXNET, and other networks.
