Comments Solicited on Scoping Studies for Future Field Campaigns

NASA's Terrestrial Ecology Program has a long and rich history of successfully mounting intensive field campaigns, including BOREAS, LBA-ECO, and the Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE). In ROSES 2022 the Terrestrial Ecology Program solicited proposals for scoping studies to 1) identify the scientific questions, (2) develop an initial study design; (3) and propose an implementation concept for a new field campaign that could be implemented on a six- to nine-year time frame. In May 2023, two scoping studies were selected. In September 2024 draft reports from the scoping studies were released for public comment.

The scoping studies described in these draft reports build on the Terrestrial Ecology legacy and aim to address critical ecological questions.

Please note that these reports describe notional campaigns; NASA has not yet made any decisions regarding their funding or implementation. Your feedback is crucial in helping refine the study approaches and ensuring that both reports address key scientific and logistical considerations.

We ask that you review the draft reports and provide your input by completing the appropriate feedback form for each study. Specific and constructive feedback is especially valuable, as it helps the teams address particular concerns or suggestions more effectively. You are welcome to remain anonymous, though providing your contact information will allow us to follow up if necessary. You can also choose whether you would like your name included in the appendix of the final report.

Please submit your feedback by November 5th.
