Modeling and Mapping Land Management and Net Carbon Emissions: Decision Support for Biofuels and Carbon Management on U.S. Agricultural Lands

Tristram O. West, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, westto@ornl.gov (Presenting)

Inventory data, remote sensing products, carbon modeling, and economic modeling are being integrated into a single framework to estimate carbon sinks and sources for U.S. croplands now and in the future. Future scenarios of include changes in land management and the introduction of biomass feedstocks for the production of lingo-cellulosic ethanol. This presentation will outline and illustrate the methods used in this modeling framework and will provide revised estimates of carbon uptake, release, and transport in the U.S. mid-continental region between 2000 and 2004.
