Time series of MODIS surface reflectance data are utilized to characterize vegetation phenology and to derive products which depict land cover state (percent cover products from MODIS Vegetation Continuous Fields, MOD44B) and land cover change (disturbance products from MODIS Vegetative Cover Conversion, MOD44A). Recent results are presented including global tree cover and leaf characteristics; forest fragmentation; tropical deforestation; persistent change due to burning; and innundation.
