Abstract:
We propose a scoping study for a potential biodiversity field campaign in response to the ROSES 2015 A.6 Biodiversity solicitation topic on Synergistic Use of Imaging Spectroscopy and Lidar Remote Sensing for Biodiversity. The study will refine the key science questions described above and develop a mission concept plan for a airborne field campaign to quantify the geographic distribution of functional diversity and ecosystem structure, evaluate the ability of instruments and algorithms to measure functional diversity changes over time, and to increase the understanding of the impacts of biodiversity change on the broader Earth System using models. This evaluation will provide crucial information for the design of sensors and algorithms for future spaceborne spectroscopic biodiversity missions (e.g. HyspIRI).
